A single photo of a lonesome bear sitting in a smoky wasteland of rubbish perfectly captures the effect that man-made waste has on the natural world. The solemn black bear takes a moment to rest while surrounded by refuse that makes up this landfill in the bear's back garden. The adult bear is likely to have journeyed into the landfill in search of food, as it appears to be empty handed and malnourished. As the bear sits, the thick smoke of burning waste can be seen covering the area, which almost conceals a beautiful tree lined backdrop in the distance. Canadian nurse Mandy Stantic captured this black bear making use of a discarded sofa at his local dumping ground during one of her regular visits.Appearing chilled, the bear, snapped at this garbage dump in Northern Manitoba, seems to be enjoying all the comforts the landfill had to offer.According to Stantic bears commonly hang around the garbage dump, and despite having moved away from the area, she still has fond memories of going to look for bears there."You don't see that very often. He's just posing, just like a person," Stantic told CBC. "So, it just looked like he was ready to have some popcorn and chill."You don't see animals kind of imitating humans - sitting with their legs crossed, arms over the chair there."And, whilst it might seem odd to take a camera to your local dumping ground, for those around, they know that the chances of spotting wild bears are very likely.a??The dump isn't exactly a tourist trap, given that it's just a big pile of litter, so it's not somewhere you'd think to take a camera; however, for those aware of the bears the linger around there, it's worth taking a few snaps."To see one sitting just casual like a human was pretty unique and I had to take a picture."Featuring: AtmosphereWhere: Northern Manitoba, CanadaWhen: 03 Oct 2017Credit: Mandy Stantic/Cover Images Photo via Newscom
